Science steals the Show

After the publication of the best GCSE results in Kingsmead's history, the great sense of elation around the school transformed slowly into a determination to raise standards even higher in the year ahead!

With the Autumn Term well under way, the highlight for many Kingsmead students so far has been the Science Show, one of the first events to be held in the newly re-opened theatre. Entitled "Everything you never wanted to know about electricity (and wished you hadn't asked...), the Quantum Theatre Touring Company presented difficult concepts in a fresh and vigorous manner.

Head of Science Mr Mike Paganini said "It was a great show, and really brought the subject to life. It was inspirational and exciting, and received with hearty applause.'

Elsewhere in the department, Year 10 and 11 parents have had the opportunity to meet with Mr Perry and Mr Eisner to discuss the coming year and look at choices at Sixth Form level. The meetings have been very useful, and greatly appreciated by staff and parents alike.

Many Year 7 students took advantage of the Splash Party at the swimming pool on Saturday 14 September. It has been good to see them all settling in to new ways and new routines, and good too to see that they are beginning to take advantage of the many extras offered by the school.

Year 7 are looking forward to the team-building trip to North Wales early in October. Other students are preparing to take part in the forthcoming 'Stars in their Eyes' concert, and the drama production 'Little Shop of Horrors', whilst yet more are involved in the sports programme of fixtures with other leading schools in the north-west.
