Busy, busy, busy

Headmaster Jonathan Perry writes;

“The new term has got off to a very good start. The theatre has been refurbished to a high standard, and now offers opportunities for drama and music in a studio setting. Smaller school productions and music concerts will take place there, and the daily assemblies are of course now taking place in a setting which is appropriate, fresh and inviting.

We have new, state-of-the-art computers installed in the Senior ICT room. I would encourage anyone who would like to see our new ICT provision to come to school on our Open Day in October. We are justifiably proud of what we can offer our pupils.

The new uniform has attracted many positive comments and we have been pleased with the new look. I understand that a small number of minor issues have been dealt with efficiently by the new provider, and that we can look forward to years of excellent service from the firm.

The on-going programme of redecoration has continued throughout the summer, and I would like to pay tribute to the work of the ancillary team under the guidance of our Bursar Mrs Alsop.

You will know that our GCSE results were the best in the school’s history. It was heartening to know that Rebecca Parsonage actually scored a maximum points total in more than one subject, placing her among the best in the country. Our A* to C success rate was 74%, but more impressively, the same rating including Maths and English was 72%, a remarkable statistic which compares Kingsmead favourably with so many local and regional schools.

The term ahead, then, will be very busy. We have a Duke of Edinburgh expedition, music concerts, drama auditions and preparation for a Spring production, as well as our huge programme of clubs and activities, including a great deal of sport.

We will soon be launching our new lecture programme, based in the new theatre, with major speakers who will broaden further the scope of the full and rounded education we offer here at Kingsmead".
