Dear Parents

Our half term holiday is here already and what a wonderful start to the academic year we have had at Kingsmead. Our children have settled well into their new classes, new roles and responsibilities and are, on the whole, working hard and enjoying lots of time in our beautiful outdoor space.

On the sporting front there have been football matches, netball matches, cross country races, a swimming gala and of course some Footgolf with Mr Hope. There are so many wonderful opportunities to participate in a range of sports at Kingsmead, please do encourage your children to check the Clubs board and sign up for break or lunch time clubs as well as those which are offered after school.

On the academic front it was good to meet Parents from Year7, Year 10 and Year 11 at the beginning of term and to set the ground rules for the important years that lie ahead. Please note that Year 8 and Year 9 examinations take place after half term and that all of the children in those classes will have been provided with revision material for the holiday period.

Year 11 children also need to be taking this two week opportunity to revise for 2 to 3 hours a day, Monday to Friday, during both weeks. As you know we were delighted with our outstanding GCSE results, which we received in August. These results were the best that we have ever had and the work ethic and communication between staff, parents and pupils plays a vital role in this success.

Thank you to the Early Years, KS1 and KS2 children and their teachers for the Harvest Assembly on Wednesday morning and to all those Parents who so generously donated food and other items to Food Bank, the local charity that we support in this way.  Our neighbours have again asked that we remember when attending functions like this at school, that they do need access to their properties at all times, so please park bearing this in mind.

On Friday 4th November the Friends of Kingsmead will be hosting our annual Fabulous Firework Display.  I do hope that as well as receiving a letter inviting you to this event that you have seen (and ‘liked’) the advertisement on our Face Book page.  Tickets are available between 3.30pm and 4.30pm from Reception until Tuesday 1st November.  I look forward to seeing many of you there.

Finally, whilst I would normally expect parents to make plans around the school breaks in the school calendar, I understand that occasionally this may not always be possible.  Please remember that a request, in writing, should be sent to me for my consideration.

I wish you all a happy half term holiday and look forward to seeing the children on Monday 31st October at 8.30am.

Kind regards

M G Gibbons
