Design Technology is taught in a purpose-built, modern workshop. Students are encouraged to demonstrate their ability by combining skills with knowledge and understanding in order to design and make quality products.
The Foundation course is taught to all senior pupils to Yr 9, and Yr l0 students may choose to study Design and Technology (Resistant Materials Technology) as one of their GCSE options.
The assessment course comprises two components:
1. Written paper 40% of marks. A preparation sheet is issued to candidates at the beginning of March in the year of the examination giving advance notice of the design content for the questions on the written papers.
2. Coursework project carries 60% of marks and takes 40 hours. Candidates are required to submit a concise design folder and a 3-dimensional outcome.
